About TWO

30th Anniversary Celebration continued …

When This Way Out went on the air in 1988, most of the mainstream media believed that all of LGBTQ life, news and culture could be summed up in one word: AIDS. Even some progressive journalists and community radio stations worried that coverage of our issues should be “balanced” with homophobic voices. Thirty years later Gordon and Chappelle’s three primary aims — to bring the voices of LGBTQ people to the airwaves telling our own story to a global audience, to ensure the broadest availability to non-profit radio stations and other non-commercial outlets by providing the program free of charge, and to facilitate the exchange of material among locally-produced queer radio shows — are as valid as ever. Those principles were noted at the West Hollywood presentation.

Overnight Productions Board Member Jon Beaupre (center) attended the ceremony with Coordinating Producer Greg Gordon and Associate Producer Lucia Chappelle.

Council member John Duran presented the proclamation.

After the Council meeting, we had a delightful reception at the home of one of our supporters. Cupcakes frosted with our 30th Anniversary logo were supplied by Cake and Art.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl gave This Way Out a proclamation to match the one from WeHo.

And the celebration isn’t over! There’s more special programming to come … a surprise event or two in the future … and the all-important “30 4 30” Anniversary Game! Just a little $30 donation in recognition of 30 years of global LGBTQ broadcasting — you wouldn’t forget your sweetheart on your anniversary, would you?
