Afronte!

Brazil’s proudly homophobic President Jair Bolsonaro has stepped in to order the national film agency ANCINE to withdraw financial support for a five-episode TV series Afronte, written and directed by Bruno Victor and Marcus Azevedo. Here’s a trailer for the documentary short version of the series. A group of queer Brazilian filmmakers is reportedly planning to file a legal challenge to the new policy.


Fiction and Documentary style come together to display the process of empowerment and transformation of Victor Hugo, a black gay young men who lives in the suburbs of DF, Brazilian Capital. His story comes along with interviews of other young men, which stories review different forms of resilience, in discourses of valorizing the young black gay men.
