Lori Lightfoot’s victory in the Chicago mayoral race was the LGBTQ big news of the April 2 local elections, overshadowing two other significant wins for lesbians on the local level. Just as Lightfoot did, Satya Rhodes-Conway of Madison, WI and Jolie Justus of Kansas City, MO. ran campaigns focussed on specific local issues.
SATYA RHODES-CONWAY was elected Mayor of Madison, WI. In the lead-up to the campaign, Rhodes-Conway appeared in a series of Know Your Candidates interviews with the candidates hosted by the City of Madison Channel and the League of Women Voters of Dane County.
JOLIE JUSTUS held the lead in the primary election for mayor of Kansas City, MO., and will face her fellow city council member Quentin Lucas in a June 18 run-off. Fox affiliate WDAF-TV Kansas City spoke with Justus in a pre-primary Coffee With the Candidates.
