Parker: For the Straight Folks

Pat Parker (1944 – 1989) was a black lesbian poet whose work was featured on one of the first LPs released by Olivia Records, called The Poetry of Pat Parker & Judy Grahn, in 1977. They coupled her work with another pioneer, Judy Grahn (1940 – ). One of the highlight selections by each appeared on the landmark LP Lesbian Concentrate, later that same year. Watch this slide show by JD Doyle of Queer Music Heritage featuring Parker’s reading of For Straight Folks Who Don’t Mind Gays, But Wish They Weren’t So Blatant. At the beginning she dedicates it (very tongue in cheek) to Anita, meaning Anita Bryant.
