February and early March is Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras season in Sydney. In 2017, a group of unique Aboriginal transgender women from the Tiwi Islands (off the “Top End” of the Northern Terrritory), who call themselves Sistagirls, made the exciting 2000-mile journey to Sydney to participate in Mardi Gras for the first time. This Way Out’s Barry McKay caught up with them before the parade.
